WARNING: THIS SITE FEATURES ORIGINAL THINKING...Jim Croce once sang Don't tug on Superman's cape..., which seems like reasonable advice should we not wish to anger the supreme powers. We do have this duality in our culture: the Superman that is the state collective, the leftist call to a politics of meaning managed by the state, the deification of "we're from the government and we'll take care of you" - versus the Superman that celebrates individual freedom, private property, freedom of conscience, free enterprise, and limited government. We humbly take on the latter's mantle and, eschewing the feeble tug, we dare to PULL, in hope of seeing freedom's rescue from the encroaching nanny state. We invite you, dear reader, to come and pull as well... Additionally, if you assume that means that we are unflinching, unquestioning GOP zombies, that would be incorrect. We reject statism in any form and call on individuals in our country to return to the original, classical liberalism of our founders. (We're also passionate about art, photography, cooking, technology, Judeo/Christian values, and satire as unique, individual pursuits of happiness to celebrate.)

Didn't you think we were done with Kerry?
Filed in: Current Affairs, Politics, WA Governor's Race

Just when you thought John Kerry had crawled back under his windsurfer, he brazenly enters Washington state politics (h/t Sound Politics):

Former presidential candidate John Kerry contributed at least $200,000 of unused campaign contributions yesterday to help fellow Democrat Christine Gregoire keep the governor's race alive and pay for a statewide hand recount.

Oh no! Not another serial everyvotemustbecounted moonbat? Well, yes:

"He believes it's absolutely critical that every vote be counted and that every Washingtonian's voice be heard in choosing a governor," said David Wade, Kerry's spokesman.

I've taken several deep breaths. I'm trying to let this sink in a little.

OK, this makes me so *&%%^& angry, I could spit. What is it, Kerry couldn't create a national constitutional crisis so he's having to make do with creating one for the state of Washington? The Dems probably couldn't raise the entry fee for the hand recount request without getting this.

I don't know if it's legal to give funds that were raised for presidential campaign costs for a state recount effort - but I know that it's certainly unethical. It isn't the purpose to which his donors made their contributions. Oh, that's right, he doesn't care: it's nuance you know.

Note to Dinocrats: Regret filling in that Kerry oval now?

Note to blogosphere: You know that little regional election crisis we've been obsessing about up here? This national enough for you? How about getting the word out so we can generate some outrage?

John, couldn't you have just been happy figuring out what committee meeting you were going to miss next?

I'll have more to say on this when I can see straight.

My full Washington gubernatorial race coverage in one click - smaller summary post here.

UPDATE: Michelle Malkin answers the call! Many thanks!

UPDATE: After input from my readers and further thought, I make a subsequent post here.

"Note to Dinocrats: Regret filling in that Kerry oval now?"

NO, I DO NOT.

If I did, then I'd vote Gregoire for Rossi putting his arm around Dick Cheney. Kerry's doing something I don't like - but also he's defending those whom carry the party pennant.

Plus, Kerry's more classier than Gregoire. Like Rossi's more moderate than Cheney. And more responsible.

EMCEE: I don't quite see the moral equivalency between "putting his arm around Dick Cheney" and tacit support for election fraud. I applaud your support for smaller government, support for small business, and change in Washington state, but I can't comprehend you understanding the "classy" act of a Boston Bhramin stealing from his contributors to bring agtiprop policy tyranny in our backyard. When did Kerry ever campaign for Gregoire? Only now?

Posted by: Josef at Dec 2, 2004 8:14:00 AM

Okay, good points and thanks for the kind words... hope you saw my latest UN post.

a) Kerry conceded the day after the election rather graciously when the math panned out against him in Ohio... hence the word

b) Good point. Kerry didn't campaign with Gregoire because Gregoire was not going to be of help to his Presidential bid, because the state had a primary campaign until mid-September when Kerry had the state pretty much in the bag - that's why.

That said, I have some nasty things to say about Dick Cheney but I'll refrain. I (and almost certainly Senator Kerry) don't think the recount itself is election fraud - but the possibilities for it are endless.

I support Dino Rossi for a lot of reasons, not the least of which being what you named and my desire for more efficient government - not as a libertarian but a New Democrat centrist who's had enough of Gregoire-Gridlocke. My blog at http://josef-a-k.blogspot.com is chock-full of reasons - try searching it for "public records" and "retreat" for starters.

Speaking of which, I posted on my blog how local gov'ts could get hammered by a hand recount. As a staunch advocate of and for them, I would prefer it if Gregoire conceded if she could not pay for the whole thing and I don't see why Gregoire shouldn't make that threat...

Posted by: Josef at Dec 2, 2004 11:44:35 AM

Thankfully, he didn't send enough to pay for a full STATEWIDE recount, despite having $16 million left over from his campaign. That way, we can concentrate our efforts on recounting ballots in predominantly democrat areas, like Jim McDermott's garage. I hear Sandy Berger found another 300 or so ballots in his pants, too, so that should be enough to put us over the top.

Unless, of course, someone forces us to count all those military absentee ballots.

EMCEE: You forgot HALLIBURTON!

"It isn't the purpose to which his donors made their contributions."
I would bet that nearly none of them have a problem with his support for a constitutional crisis in WA. They want a D to win, no matter what.

EMCEE: True, but JFK didn't ask them for a contribution to contest an election. You are probably correct that many would not have a problem with it - but then why has GreGORE had such a difficult time raising the funds? Is it because potential donors realize how craven this is?

Posted by: Daniel Day at Dec 2, 2004 12:37:18 PM

Josef, you're a good guy, but you're wading when you should just come on in and swim. The water is warm.

EMCEE: We have faith. Josef is a good thinker and watches the world with clear eyes. His new blue gets redder by the minute.

2 Things:

#1. BREAKING NEWS - Gregoire wants ALL OR NOT...

#2. Jeff, I'm respectfully not going to swim with the Shark Blogger, the EEL-y-man (Eyman), the Cross Sharks (religious fanatics), the Halliburton Shark (Cheney), the Zell Eel, the Armey Shark, the Russ Limbaugh Jellyfish... I could go on.

I'm a New Democrat-leaning centrist (read Maria Cantwell & Joe Lieberman suck-up...)

EMCEE: #1 - Good, either means she has the money or realizes how what a politically stilted position she has worked herself into, #2 - These highly trained sharks don't eat friendlies - nice job on working in that 'HALLIBURTON!' though.

Posted by: Josef at Dec 2, 2004 1:56:47 PM

Sorry Josef, whether you like it or not, you are already swimming with some of those "religious fanatics" you mention (Not to mention people who sometimes vote for Eyman's initiatives. Gasp!)

Don't worry. It's not as bad as it looks from the outside. It's actually rather pleasant, from the inside looking out. I don't understand what so many fear from us.

Posted by: Sarah Schreffler at Dec 2, 2004 9:57:02 PM

I hate to tell you all this, but I would just assume shoot Tim Eyman than swim with him! The guy's a fraud, a liar, I could go on... This is the creep who cooked up I-892, I-864, I-747... and you want me on HIS team? YOU'RE CRAZY! You might want to note a certain button on my blog and go to http://josef-a-k.blogspot.com/2004/09/eymans-braggadocio.html for starters...

And as a supporter of legalized gay marriage (on the grounds gov't doesn't have moral authority on this issue and gov't shouldn't shrink itself to our bedrooms...) the Cross Sharks would eat me (just ask US Senator Arlen Spector who won't allow Roe V Wade to be overturned, for instance)...

The Haliburton Shark wouldn't like my position of NO corporate welfare...

The Zell Eel would shock me if I wasn't a DINO (Democrat-in-name-only)...

The Armey Shark would call me in the middle of the night and use Jesus' name to justify just about anything (as Joe Scarborough wrote about in "Rome Wasn't Burnt In A Day", pages 129-30 when he did so to our very own Steve Largent)...

And I'm too blue not to get daily stingings from the the Russ Limbaugh Jellyfish...

Sorry, but very respectfully and bluntly: Although I agree with you on many issues: I'm NOT getting in!!! PERIOD.

EMCEE: We'uns are very patient, my friend. Just like beggars telling another beggar where we found bread, you know?

Posted by: Josef at Dec 2, 2004 11:04:07 PM

For the record - I wouldn't shoot Eyman for real, I was speaking figuratively...

EMCEE: It's OK. I have it on good authority that he didn't consider it a threat. He's just trying to figure out what to do with all those slot machines he invested in.
