WARNING: THIS SITE FEATURES ORIGINAL THINKING...Jim Croce once sang Don't tug on Superman's cape..., which seems like reasonable advice should we not wish to anger the supreme powers. We do have this duality in our culture: the Superman that is the state collective, the leftist call to a politics of meaning managed by the state, the deification of "we're from the government and we'll take care of you" - versus the Superman that celebrates individual freedom, private property, freedom of conscience, free enterprise, and limited government. We humbly take on the latter's mantle and, eschewing the feeble tug, we dare to PULL, in hope of seeing freedom's rescue from the encroaching nanny state. We invite you, dear reader, to come and pull as well... Additionally, if you assume that means that we are unflinching, unquestioning GOP zombies, that would be incorrect. We reject statism in any form and call on individuals in our country to return to the original, classical liberalism of our founders. (We're also passionate about art, photography, cooking, technology, Judeo/Christian values, and satire as unique, individual pursuits of happiness to celebrate.)

WA Governor's Race: 12% manual recount counted
Filed in: Current Affairs, Politics, WA Governor's Race

As of 4:30 this afternoon, Pacific time, a little over 12% of the WA gubernatorial ballots have been recounted manually - this from 17 counties reporting.

To this point Dino Rossi has gained 136 votes and Christine Gregoire has gained a net of 108 votes. Through the current count Rossi leads Gregoire 180,318 votes to 150,648 votes.

Because I can't resist doing a little ratio comparison: Rossi's percentage of the added votes for the recount to this stage is 55.7%, Gregoire's 44.3% (just counting the Rossi and Gregoire votes - it's ratio between them that I'm interested in). For the overall vote count for the manual recount Rossi's lead is 54.5%, Gregoire's percentage is at 45.5%. (Remember that these add up to 100% because I'm not evaluating the third party candidate, Bennett.)

These ratios are within 1.2%. Given that it is a manual recount, it would appear that the error rate introduced by the manual nature of the count is primarily cancelling out in terms of the whole process so far.

Having the ratio of votes not heretofore registered be near one percentage point of the overall ratio seems quite reasonable with a 12% sample counted so far.

Given that in the first recount, the King County ratios (recount to full count) were different by a whopping 4%, - and King county the largest vote sample in the state - with a comparable group of counties varying in the same ratio by one ten-thousandth in total - there is still significant concern. King County represented 31.2% of the overall vote in the last recount - not quite three times what has been counted so far.

We wait on the Washington State Supreme Court who is rumored will hear the case that attacks the Washington electorate on Monday.

And we continue to watch as counties certify the count, again.

Why do they allow partial recounts? It almost always determines who is going to win.

EMCEE: It's cheaper and they just target where they think they can get the votes. In our case here, though, we're counting everything - they are just coming in county by county - smaller counties first.

•LANE'S LEGIONS: On conservative web logs, admiration for Dino Rossi's spitfire of a spokeswoman, Mary Lane, runs high. They even have a fond nickname for her, inspired by Donald "Rummy" Rumsfeld: Secretary of Defense Marummy Lane.

EMCEE: Well, it's apparent that the MSM is reading your blog Josef! I didn't know whether 'Marummy' would catch on. It's just great!
