WARNING: THIS SITE FEATURES ORIGINAL THINKING...Jim Croce once sang Don't tug on Superman's cape..., which seems like reasonable advice should we not wish to anger the supreme powers. We do have this duality in our culture: the Superman that is the state collective, the leftist call to a politics of meaning managed by the state, the deification of "we're from the government and we'll take care of you" - versus the Superman that celebrates individual freedom, private property, freedom of conscience, free enterprise, and limited government. We humbly take on the latter's mantle and, eschewing the feeble tug, we dare to PULL, in hope of seeing freedom's rescue from the encroaching nanny state. We invite you, dear reader, to come and pull as well... Additionally, if you assume that means that we are unflinching, unquestioning GOP zombies, that would be incorrect. We reject statism in any form and call on individuals in our country to return to the original, classical liberalism of our founders. (We're also passionate about art, photography, cooking, technology, Judeo/Christian values, and satire as unique, individual pursuits of happiness to celebrate.) |
Superman's product of the century (so far):
Most of us in Washington State continue to reel at the fraud and negligence that characterized our election here last November.
Shark Sharkansky at Sound Politics has continued on with dogged determination - he's continued to execute FOIA requests (or their equivalent at the County level) - and has continued to expose the staggering corruption in King County. Just yesterday he discovered by physical inspection dozens more additional absentee ballots - many of them from members of the armed services - that were not counted in last November's election!
A week ago, working with Bob Edelmen of the Evergreen Freedom Foundation, Shark discovered and reported that the current set of King County absentee ballots (that we're going to vote in the upcoming local election) are in violation of state law - having to do with mail forwarding.
These things continue to remind us of the horrid conditions that our election system remains in - but I have something to share that's a bit more, well, Heinlenian.
I just received my absentee ballot and my local voters pamphlet - we've got this local King County election coming up September 20th. Among the offices to be filled is that of King County Executive - for which the election department works - so you can imagine that it is important to many of us.
I'm pretty sure that we have been transported to some strange planet, because this is the front page of the voter's pamphlet:
You really can't make this stuff up folks. I think this is the most condescending piece of crap information I have ever seen in the voting process.
Perhaps it's just that I'm still a bit staggered from the UN worldwide condom distribution effort - but these characters look like they were created by the same folks who made Shaft, Stretch, and Dick. What do you think?
Anyway, in a strange reflection of King County's incompetence, the voting public is being told like good second graders to vote for the guy whose nose grows when he tells a lie - somewhere around the pelvic area of the ballot.
I guess that means that Dean Logan will be running for Governor sometime in the future.
Inside the voter's pamphlet we are treated to a letter from Dean:
And it sounds pretty good - until you look at the rest of the pamphlet and compare it to reality. I'm sorry Dean. Apologies without fixing the problems just don't cut it.
See, there's a poll worker advertisement in the pamphlet:
But it neglected to mention that only Democrats need apply.
And while the pamphlet is sounding tough on the new identification requirement...
(Pen-ney - get it? Hey, it's as good a name as Shaft, Stretch, or Dick - and serves to remind us that election officials have pens and they will mark up ballots however they want to...)
To those of us who have been election watchers since last November, this is a rather obvious message that the corruption will continue. The address on this 'ID' is none other than the King County elections office and is within the, now infamous, Precinct 1823. This is the location that you can register in if you have no address or if you don't live in Washington state or if you want your vote to count in Seattle rather than in the precinct that you actually live in - in King County.
You may remember that it was the landslide of votes from people who 'live' at the King County elections office that alone gave the gubernatorial race to the former Attorney General Gregoire.
The message is clear: "We here at King County are making some noise about identification - but never fear - we'll accept registration of your identification at a place that you don't live - right here with us - and we'll protect your fraudulent vote - because every vote - even fraudulent ones - must count in King County."
Excuse me, I'm going to be sick.
To be fair, a number of changes have been made - all attempts at making a King County election better.
But none of these things prevent anyone from executing vote fraud for dummies.
And we still don't know to what extent the voter database is actually clean. We know that deceased persons are still receiving absentee ballots. We know that some people are receiving more than one absentee ballot with their cute little voter's pamphlet. *Sigh*
Dear Folks:
I'm writing to let you know that we are entering another election season here in Washington State. I must let you know that King County in our fair state has left the reservation and is somewhere left of the planet. Our election officials continue to be corrupt and incompetent, but they've used taxpayer money to create a second grade level voting manual that apparently also serves as an initiation into some bizarre sex cult. They make some big talk to we little people, but also make it clear that they'll continue to support fraudulent registration practices and despite their claims they fundamentally haven't cleaned up the voter roles.
I don't know whether we'll ever be able to find our way back to earth again.
Other than that, not much new. Hope this note finds you well.
UPDATE: Welcome Sound Politics readers. You'll notice that the links in this post are almost entirely to Sound Politics - really a tribute to Shark's incredible work. If you haven't seen it before, or if you want to see it again, I have video of Brit Hume's interview of Shark at the beginning of this year here.

If it weren't so sad it would be funny.
The database STATEWIDE is still not clean. My daughter re-registered in Pierce County after voting in Whitman County. Yep, you guessed it. She got her Pierce County absentee ballot at her address there and her Whitman County ballot here.
This is so criminal.
EMCEE: Hey CC. Thanks for letting us know. Make sure you get this info to Shark. He's keeping a list.Posted by: cc at Sep 10, 2005 9:30:00 AM
Snohomish Co.'s voter pamphlet isn't too bad - art work from a 9 year old on the cover, but no cartoons. :( I want some infantile and condescending cartoons too, dang it!
I didn't have any trouble re-registering in Snohomish after being registered in Whatcom. Although I did get a jury duty notice from Whatcom County some time later. I wasn't voting by absentee ballot up there however, so who knows? This state is SO effed up.
Sigh.
>^..^<EMCEE: Hi Jan! Come on down. I'm sure we can get you your very own KINGCO voter's pamphlet - as a souvenir of sorts :). Thanks for the good light-heartedness. Helps me cope with this craziness.Posted by: JLB at Sep 10, 2005 10:18:52 AM
I received my Snohomish County Absentee ballot yesterday, it was forwarded by the PO to my new address. On the envelope was the notation in printed lettering " ADDRESS SERVICE REQUESTED"(doesn't that mean send them the new address not forward it???)
EMCEE: I think it means what you suggest. Perhaps the post office is following the King County instructions instead...Posted by: gfseattle at Sep 10, 2005 11:26:07 AM
My daughter just bought a house in Pierce County. She got the absentees for the previous owners. She can now vote FOUR times in this primary election.

Great blog! I found you by way of Sound Politics. Its not easy being an informed conservative who lives with his new wife in West Seattle, but blogs like yours and Sound Politics help to keep me informed and give me a community of like-minded reasonable people to hang with. Thank you for all you do.
EMCEE: Thanks for the kind words Gary. And thanks for stopping by. Look forward to hearing your thoughts on our variety of topics.Posted by: Gary at Sep 10, 2005 12:31:15 PM
This is just an unfolding tragedy.
I am just as upset as everybody else. But the ID issue isn't really Logan & Co's fault as much as the state legislature's. The "Democrats" were against it...

Heck if you can't make fun of voter pamphlets and local government incompetance, then what's left? :)
A copy of my very own?!?! I'm just so excited. You know I've dreamed of such an honor my whole life. I want to thank my family and friends, my producers and sound people, and especially the academy...

Thank you emcee. I posted on SP board. "Susan B. Anthony" had a good point about my daughters' re-registration. IF she did this AFTER Aug. 12, Whitman County legally could not change her status here. I will be checking on this because, like she told me, if she was under the 30 day rule, she shouldn't have gotten her Pierce County ballot.
This is so screwed up. How in the world will we ever know and who in the world do we believe!
BTW, great site. I know I have visited before, but not often enough!

Freaking hilarious! The amazing thing is that your entire story is crafted from a voters pamphlet that couldn't be any more strange if we were making it especially to be strange!
EMCEE: Hey BananaLand! Truth is so often stranger than fiction - but who knew just how much?Posted by: BananaLand (aka Iguana) at Sep 11, 2005 1:15:59 AM
Haha, Christine Gregorie, Paul Berendt, and Ron Sims, will make sure that Gregoire will win again in 2008. Give it up people, I too will win in 2008, vote for "Congressman Dave Ross", spreading nonsense to the masses.
EMCEE: Somehow, I don't really think this is Dave Ross the Kiro radio announcer. Be assured that many of us are working toward Washington as a Red state.Posted by: Dave Ross at Sep 11, 2005 4:28:31 PM
