WARNING: THIS SITE FEATURES ORIGINAL THINKING...Jim Croce once sang Don't tug on Superman's cape..., which seems like reasonable advice should we not wish to anger the supreme powers. We do have this duality in our culture: the Superman that is the state collective, the leftist call to a politics of meaning managed by the state, the deification of "we're from the government and we'll take care of you" - versus the Superman that celebrates individual freedom, private property, freedom of conscience, free enterprise, and limited government. We humbly take on the latter's mantle and, eschewing the feeble tug, we dare to PULL, in hope of seeing freedom's rescue from the encroaching nanny state. We invite you, dear reader, to come and pull as well... Additionally, if you assume that means that we are unflinching, unquestioning GOP zombies, that would be incorrect. We reject statism in any form and call on individuals in our country to return to the original, classical liberalism of our founders. (We're also passionate about art, photography, cooking, technology, Judeo/Christian values, and satire as unique, individual pursuits of happiness to celebrate.) |
Superman's product of the century (so far):
Someone stole a life size baby Jesus from a nativity scene in Huron, Michigan.
It's certainly sad to see a nativity scene missing the baby Jesus.
Maybe someone needed him for their own nativity scene?
I started thinking that I remembered seeing one recently - where was that?
Oh, yeah, it was over at K's. Seems like she was missing the Baby Jesus too.
So I asked a friend to drop by over at K's and they took a new picture of the nativity scene...
Hey! What's up with that?
Someone just trying to help out K. You know, you can just put it back - no questions asked!

Listed below are links to weblogs that reference: What happened to the Baby Jesus?:
Isn't it traditional, at least for some folks, to leave the baby Jesus out of the manger till Christmas Eve?
EMCEE: Well, yes it is, and I didn't mean to leave my dear Catholic friends out of my post. I just had the Protestant example on the one hand and the Pagan :) on the other. You do bring up interesting aspects to our iconic values within the Christian culture. The Nativity scene doesn't really represent a time sensitive display. I mean who was there prior to Christmas Eve? Some animals. Joseph and Mary show up. Sometime later Jesus is born. Later on we get shepherds. And most scholars think a couple of years later the Magi show up (and not at the stable by that point). So really for everyone the Nativity scene is a timeless tableau in most respects. On the other hand, consciously placing the baby Jesus in the manger on Christmas Eve is a marvelous commemoration of the coming of the Lord. An acknowledgement that the creator of the universe became a human being in the most humble of circumstances at a particular point in history. I see great value in either representation. And, as usual, I'm going on... thanks for your thought provoking comment dear Mrs. Hapke.Posted by: gail at Dec 7, 2005 11:06:49 AM

YEA! What Gail said!
EMCEE: Yeah, yeah. First you say the baby Jebus is sleeping. Now you say you were just holdin' him back. What's the dealio? Where he be?Posted by: SondraK at Dec 7, 2005 10:37:43 PM
