WARNING: THIS SITE FEATURES ORIGINAL THINKING...Jim Croce once sang Don't tug on Superman's cape..., which seems like reasonable advice should we not wish to anger the supreme powers. We do have this duality in our culture: the Superman that is the state collective, the leftist call to a politics of meaning managed by the state, the deification of "we're from the government and we'll take care of you" - versus the Superman that celebrates individual freedom, private property, freedom of conscience, free enterprise, and limited government. We humbly take on the latter's mantle and, eschewing the feeble tug, we dare to PULL, in hope of seeing freedom's rescue from the encroaching nanny state. We invite you, dear reader, to come and pull as well... Additionally, if you assume that means that we are unflinching, unquestioning GOP zombies, that would be incorrect. We reject statism in any form and call on individuals in our country to return to the original, classical liberalism of our founders. (We're also passionate about art, photography, cooking, technology, Judeo/Christian values, and satire as unique, individual pursuits of happiness to celebrate.)

Osaka (Part 4) Osaka Night
Filed in: Current Affairs, Japan, Photography

At night the Shin-Umeda Sky Building takes on a different character.

Dsc_01730078

The gardens that surround the building are well lit and beautiful.

Dsc_01750080

The restaurants below the building have a great view of the lights and reflections.

Dsc_01690075

The building looks even more like a spaceship - as it frames the moon.

Dsc_01790082

Scotty? Do you read me Scotty? I'm on the planet below.

Dsc_01850083

This tree is much more photogenic at night.

Dsc_01880084

And buildings in the distance are lit up 'Osaka Style'.

Dsc_01920085

A little church next door hosts a wedding.

Dsc_02220095

That escalator ride up in the dark is pretty weird.

Dsc_01980087

Look at the lights!

Dsc_02060088

There are those bridges to the west. Two trains pass on the bridge there in the middle and make white streaks in four seconds of exposure.

Dsc_02080089

OK - It just looks like a runway - don't try landing!

Dsc_02140090

That's the curvature of the earth on the horizon there - I don't think that the lights ever stop until there's ocean.

Dsc_02150091

Yes, it's true. That building on the middle right does have a road going right through it.

Dsc_02160092

Did you know that Japan has lots of working nuclear power plants? It's a good thing.

Dsc_02170093

The lights only stop for the river and the bay. Trainways can be clearly seen going toward those bridges on the river.

Dsc_02210094

The scope really is breathtaking. There's just no way to capture it... or is there? No way I can do a 360 panorama. Maybe, say 110 degrees? Hmmm... that's possible. (Get's out Photoshop and starts pasting up...)

People Pulling

The elevator shot is kind of cool. But the city, beautiful lights notwithstanding, is a little too claustrophobic for me!
